Anton: Here's a home demo of a rather goofy new tune, just completed today, called "The Words":
I do have some thoughts about it, but rather than express them here, I'm going to go down the street to have a well-earned beer, and let neighborhood critic/friend J. Hitchcock Roach discuss it in my stead.J. Hitchcock Roach: Hm, to my ears this is another Anton Sword tune in the early Eno vein, with requisite Ferry/Bowie -inflected vocals. I also hear a bit of XTC in it. What's with the Brit obsession? You're a native New Yorker, Anton, why not stick with your roots, eh? I do like that he's using more of his lower register, though. What can one say about the lyrics -- Burroughs meets Ogden Nash or W.S. Gilbert perhaps? But that's over-high praise. I like the surreal-meets-silly lyric style (Of Montreal does it exceptionally well), but lines here like 'on the tofu sofa in the kitchen she leaves your organelles dripping' (that's what I heard, anyway) stretch one's patience a bit. In any case, I do enjoy the bubbly synthy soundscape. The drums could use a bit more variation, but they're fine for a demo. Let's see if it bears repeated listening.
